Waiting
Waiting
There are several reasons why we should wait on the Lord.
- Empty stuff from our mind.
- Listen to what He wants to say.
- Look for clear direction.
- Sit quietly focusing on Him and His word.
- Freedom from anxiety.
Many more could be listed but this gives you an idea of what can come from waiting with Him.
Today I would like to talk more about waiting on the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8 ESV 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
There is a baptism at salvation.
John 20:21-22 ESV 21
- Peter and John healing a crippled man.
Acts 3:1-10ESV
- Peter and John speaking
Acts 4:1-4 ESV
1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
- Peter under pressure
Acts 4:5-12 ESV
5 On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus[a] is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[c] by which we must be saved.”
There was no mention of waiting in these passages. It is implied that waiting became a practice in their lives. Waiting isn’t something has to be in a certain place or at a certain time although that is best practice.
- They were on their way to the temple to pray / wait.
- As they spent the night in custody I’m sure they were waiting on more than daylight.
Psalm 37:4-7 ESV
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.
7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!
