Daniel 6:10-13 ESV

10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. 11 Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God. 12 Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, “O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.” 13 Then they answered and said before the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”

  • Was Daniel rebellious or determined to honor God?
  • Was God looking for an opportunity to prove Himself again?

Daniel 6:22 ESV

22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

  • Will God close the lions mouths every time?

Daniel 6:28 ESV

28 So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

  • Why was Daniel so adamant to serve God?
  • God had been proven faithful, so he had heard.
  • Until Daniel 1 it was all hearsay. Then they were captured and made to serve the king. 1 mis-step could result in death.

Conclusion

With Daniel we don’t have a conversion story or a call to action moment like Isaiah or Jeremiah. We only see his consistency to serve and honor God above all else. We also see God respond to Daniel and work on his behalf.

Romans 5:1-5 ESV

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith[b] into this grace in which we stand, and we[c] rejoice[d] in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
