Living as a Martyr pt 6
Define martyr = A person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing or refusing to renounce a religion.
Martyrdom is about dying for your biblical beliefs but to live as a martyr is to spend your life living for those same beliefs. The most effective way to live as a martyr has less to do with living against something and is driven by living for something.
Galatians 5:22-24 ESV
Leviticus 24 an eye for an eye. We have all heard this terminology. This command was given as a form of justice not for individuals to perform on their own. Even the OT gives examples that are in opposition to the eye for an eye mentality.
- Syrian army attempts to raid Israel
2 Kings 6:15-23 ESV
- How do you treat your enemy in this case?
- How do you treat your co-worker, boss, family, or even wife?
Proverbs 25:21-24 ESV
- Again we hear the same thing be kind to your enemy.
Matthew 5:43-48 ESV
- Jesus is setting the stage for how different we are to be than anyone else.
- This is so important that our son ship depends on it.
- But I thought we are saved by faith not works? I would say He asking us to have faith beyond our understanding and then act on that faith.
This is so important and we are to be so different from others in this regard that through the Spirit Paul wrote Ephesians 4:17-32
Ephesians 4:17-32 ESV
Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit. When developing it all areas of your life are affected.
Those around you will be great full.
You will be challenged and will experience tremendous growth.
You will feel closer to the Lord.
