Living as a Martyr Pt 8
Define martyr = A person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing or refusing to renounce a religion.
Martyrdom is about dying for your biblical beliefs but to live as a martyr is to spend your life living for those same beliefs. The most effective way to live as a martyr has less to do with living against something and is driven by living for something.
Galatians 5:22-24 ESV
- We have talked week after week about how each of the fruit are being developed in us and how they are the very character of God. He doesn’t have to work at being faithful He is faithful.
- In 1 Kings 8 Solomon had completed building the temple and now was dedicating it. As he was closing he says this about the promise of God.
1 Kings 8:56 ESV
- If one word from God has ever fallen short or failed then we could say He is unfaithful.
- Instead Gods faithfulness throughout scripture is so pronounced that Jonah said this
Jonah 3:10-4:4 ESV
- God had been so faithful through the years that Jonah already knew how God would respond to repentance, even of those who were not Jewish.
- Gods reputation went before Him.
- Unfortunately so does the reputation of man.
- This book reveals the lack of faithfulness of man, we run, avoid, whine, complain, even get mad when God calls, leads, or works in a way that we don’t agree with.
Jonah 4:5-11 ESV
- The remainder of this book exposes the heart of God towards man even in their unfaithfulness.
God Will
- Reach for you when you run
- Love you when your not lovable
- Seek your heart not your behavior
- God will work to develop your faithfulness
- Today there may be some here that are falling short of Gods call but acting like they aren’t.
- Stop pretending and start confessing.
- God is so faithful that He will forgive and clean us.
1 John 1:5-10 ESV
