What happened after Jesus raised from the grave. What was communicated both verbally and nonverbally.
Last week we seen how Jesus gave instruction to go, 2 different times, the day He was raised. Once to Mary to tell the disciples and once to the disciples that He was sending them out.
This week we will see what is said through actions.
John 20:24-25 ESV
- Right here the disciples had the opportunity to separate from Thomas.
- They could have degraded him for not believing because of their words.
- They could have bragged that they saw Jesus and he didn’t.
- He wasn’t at their place of believing yet.
- The disciples extended love to Thomas.
1 Corinthians 13:3-8 ESV
John 20:26-29 ESV
- Thomas wasn’t kicked out, he was still welcomed to be a part of them.
- Scripture doesn’t say this but they must have prayed for and encouraged Thomas during these 8 days.
- If there was no encouragement Thomas would have been separated because he didn’t believe.
- Imagine the conversations they had over these 8 days, they were confident in what they believed and desired so deeply for Thomas to as well.
Hebrews 10:19-25 ESV
- Spiritual revelation will come to all.
- Why does it take some so long and others receive quickly?
- In this case Thomas could have received the same day as everyone else even though His experience would have been different.
- He chose to reject based on their words, he wanted more.
- How could there be more than scripture?
John 16:7-15 ESV
- The Holy Spirit convicts people not us.
- The Spirit leads to all truth.
Conclusion
Jesus told Mary to go tell the disciples about His resurrection, He told the disciples He was sending them to spread the truth, He sent the Spirit to lead us into all truth.
We speak truth but He leads in to that truth.
